So my husband says-- after taking a look at my first blog post-- I'm not so sure about that.
What-- me having a blog? I said I would do it.
No-- what if they look like that in every picture in France, he asks. What if they pull out their games at the Louvre?
Well, I say...
I was being selfish that day.
I was happy to have them plug in so I could have a few beers with my family.
Well, I won't have too many opportunities to be selfish in the next three months. I realize that. But isn't that the greatest kind of love I can show my kids?
Love makes us do some crazy things....
Happy Valentine's Day.

It's a Short trip...
We've heard the old joke: you're driving me crazy--- and it's a real short trip.
Here's another version, and it's no joke. For a number of reasons-- to be addressed later in this blog-- I am taking a break from crazy. I am leaving the minivan lifestyle to which we are all accustomed, packing up the children, and taking them to France.
It's a Short trip. For one, we are the Shorts, and two, it's only for three months. But also because I am hopeful that my trip from crazy doesn't need to be a long one. We're taking a time out from carpools and soccer, Walmart and wii. Maybe my kids will discover, through our short trip from crazy, that there is a bigger world out there. There is something bigger than themselves that they can be a part of.
This is how my children spent a recent brewery tour in Williamsburg. Let's hope they do better in the vineyards of Sancerre, France. |
Now is that so crazy?
